Why These Features Matter
Terms & Conditions Protection
What it does: Forces members to check a box agreeing to your rules before paying.
Why you need it:
Proves they agreed to your refund policy
Documents acceptable behavior rules
Protects you in disputes or chargebacks
Shows clear communication of terms
Helps win payment disputes with Stripe
Real scenario: Member requests refund after 3 months. You have "no refunds after 30 days" in T&C. They accepted it at signup. You show proof to Stripe. Dispute settled in your favor.
Without T&C: Member says "I never agreed to that." You have no proof. Harder to defend.
Name on Card Verification
What it does: Requires members to type the name exactly as it appears on their credit card.
Why you need it:
Reduces fraud (stolen cards)
Prevents chargebacks
Verifies real person, not bot
Matches billing information
Shows payment legitimacy
Real scenario: Someone tries to join with stolen card. Name doesn't match. Card gets declined or flagged. Fraud prevented.
Without name verification: Easier for fraudsters to use stolen cards. More chargebacks. More headaches.
Who Should Use These Features
Use Terms & Conditions If:
✅ You have specific refund policy (especially no refunds)
✅ You sell trading signals or financial advice
✅ Your content is controversial or polarizing
✅ You have strict community behavior rules
✅ You've had refund disputes before
✅ You charge high prices ($100+/month)
✅ You want legal protection
✅ Your community has rules members must follow
Use Name on Card If:
✅ You've had fraudulent signups
✅ You've had chargebacks
✅ You sell high-value access ($50+/month)
✅ You want extra fraud protection
✅ You're in fraud-prone industry (trading, crypto, gambling)
✅ You want to verify real people
✅ You've had problems with stolen cards
When NOT to Use
Don't require T&C if:
You're just starting (low-risk testing phase)
Your pricing is very low ($5-10/month)
You want simplest possible signup
You have generous refund policy anyway
Don't require name on card if:
You want fastest checkout (removes one field)
Fraud isn't a concern for you
You're testing conversion rates
Every extra field might reduce signups
Balance: Protection vs friction. More requirements = safer but slower signup.
How to Enable Terms & Conditions
Step 1: Create Your Terms & Conditions Document
Before enabling in LaunchPass, you need actual Terms to link to.
Where to create T&C:
Google Docs (public link)
Your website (dedicated page)
Notion (public page)
GitHub gist (if technical)
Make sure it's publicly accessible. Members must be able to read it before accepting.
What to include in your T&C (see template section below).
Step 2: Get Your T&C Link
Create your Terms document
Make it publicly viewable
Copy the full URL
Examples:
docs.google.com/document/d/ABC123/view
yourwebsite.com/terms
notion.site/Terms-and-Conditions-XYZ
Test the link: Open in incognito browser. Make sure anyone can view it.
Step 3: Enable Feature in LaunchPass
Log in to your LaunchPass dashboard
Find the page you want to edit
Click Edit
Scroll down to Premium Features section
Find Terms & Conditions
Toggle it ON (switch turns green or shows checkmark)
Paste your T&C link in the URL field that appears
Click Save or Update
Your page now requires T&C acceptance.
Step 4: Test It
Open your signup page
Click "Subscribe" or "Join"
Payment form appears
Look for checkbox: "I agree to the Terms & Conditions"
Try submitting without checking box (should show error)
Check box, verify link works when clicked
Complete test signup
If checkbox appears and link works, you're done!
How to Enable Name on Card
This one is simpler (no URL needed).
Step 1: Enable Feature
Log in to LaunchPass dashboard
Find your page
Click Edit
Scroll to Premium Features
Find Require Name on Card
Toggle it ON
Click Save
Done! That's it.
Step 2: Test It
Open your signup page
Click join/subscribe
Payment form appears
Look for field: "Name on Card" or "Cardholder Name"
Try submitting without name (should show error)
Enter name, complete test signup
Field should appear and be required.

Click "Subscribe"
Takes 30-60 seconds.
With Terms & Conditions
Checkout adds:
Checkbox: "I agree to the Terms & Conditions"
Link to your T&C (click to read)
Cannot submit until checked
Takes 45-75 seconds (extra 15 seconds to check box).
With Name on Card
Checkout adds:
Field: "Name on Card"

Legal Disclaimer
I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice.
Terms & Conditions are legal documents. Consider:
For basic communities ($10-50/month):
Use template above
Modify for your situation
Have someone review it
For high-value communities ($100+/month):
Hire lawyer to create custom T&C
Especially for trading, financial, health, legal niches
Worth $200-500 investment
For international communities:
Consider jurisdiction differences
EU members have different refund rights (GDPR)
Some countries require specific disclosures
When in doubt: Get legal advice. Cost of lawyer is less than cost of lost lawsuit.
Where to View Terms & Conditions Acceptance Data
Question: Where do you see who accepted your T&C and when?
Answer: Currently tracked by Stripe in subscription metadata.
How to View in Stripe
Log in to dashboard.stripe.com
Go to Customers
Click on customer name
View their subscription
Check subscription metadata
Look for "terms_accepted" field with timestamp
Not visible in LaunchPass dashboard (as of current version).
For disputes:
Member claims they didn't agree
You check their Stripe subscription
Show metadata with acceptance date/time
Proves they agreed at signup
Better tracking: Keep your own spreadsheet.
Export customer list monthly
Note date of signup
Mark T&C version they accepted (if you update T&C)
How Name on Card Verification Works
What Happens Behind the Scenes
When member enters name:
Types their name (e.g., "Jane Smith")
Stripe receives name + card number
Stripe checks if name matches card's billing info
Card issuer confirms or denies match
If match: Payment processes normally
If no match: Depends on card issuer
Some decline immediately
Some flag for manual review
Some allow but mark as risky
Not foolproof but adds friction for fraudsters.
What It Actually Verifies
Does verify:
Someone typed a name
Name format is valid
Provides data point for fraud detection
Does NOT verify:
That name matches person using card
That card isn't stolen
That person is legitimate
Think of it as: Speed bump, not roadblock. Slows fraud but doesn't eliminate it.
Stripe's Role
Stripe handles actual verification:
Compares name to card network data
Uses machine learning for fraud detection
Flags suspicious patterns
You get cleaner payment data
You don't need to do anything except enable feature.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Mistake 1: No Terms & Conditions Link
What happens: You toggle T&C on but don't add URL.
Result: Checkbox appears but link doesn't work. Members get confused.
Solution: Always paste your T&C URL after enabling.
Mistake 2: Private Google Doc
What happens: You link to Google Doc with "view access" restricted.
Result: Members click link, see "Request Access," can't read terms.
Solution: Make document public ("Anyone with link can view").
Mistake 3: Broken T&C Link
What happens: You move/delete your T&C page. Link breaks.
Result: Members can't read terms. Sign up breaks or causes confusion.
Solution: Test link monthly. Use permanent URL if possible.
Mistake 4: T&C Too Long
What happens: Your T&C is 20 pages of legal text.
Result: Nobody reads it. Looks intimidating. May reduce signups.
Solution: Keep it simple. 1-3 pages maximum. Use plain language.
Mistake 5: No Refund Policy
What happens: T&C doesn't mention refunds.
Result: Member requests refund. You say no. They dispute with bank. You lose.
Solution: State refund policy clearly in T&C. "No refunds" or "30-day refunds only."
Mistake 6: Requiring Name But Not Testing
What happens: You enable name requirement. Don't test it.
Result: Field doesn't appear or doesn't work. Members can't sign up.
Solution: Always test after enabling any feature.
Mistake 7: Updating T&C Without Notice
What happens: You change T&C after people joined.
Result: Original members never accepted new terms. Legally unclear.
Solution: Email members when T&C change. Give them option to review and accept or cancel.
Best Practices
For Terms & Conditions
1. Keep it simple
Plain language (not legalese)
Short paragraphs
Clear section headers
Easy to scan
2. Be specific
Exact refund policy (not vague "may issue refunds")
Exact cancellation process
Specific community rules
3. Update when needed
Mark "Last Updated: [Date]"
Notify members of changes
Keep old versions archived
4. Make it accessible
Permanent URL
Public access
Mobile-friendly
Fast loading
5. Reference in other places
Mention in welcome channel
Link in website footer
Include in welcome email
For Name on Card
1. Explain why
"To prevent fraud and protect all members"
"Required for verification"
Reduces confusion
2. Show example
"Enter name exactly as it appears on card"
Example: "John Smith" not "J. Smith"
3. Test regularly
Verify field appears
Check it's actually required
Ensure it submits correctly
4. Monitor fraud rates
Track chargebacks before/after enabling
Compare fraud rates with/without
Decide if it's worth the friction
For Both Features
1. Balance security and conversion
More fields = more security
More fields = fewer signups
Test to find sweet spot
2. Use both for high-risk scenarios
High prices ($100+/month)
Fraud-prone niches
Previous chargeback problems
3. Consider A/B testing
Run half signups with features
Run half without
Compare conversion and fraud rates
Use data to decide
Troubleshooting
Issue 1: T&C Checkbox Not Appearing
Cause: Feature not enabled correctly or not saved.
Solution:
Go to Edit page
Check "Terms & Conditions" toggle is ON
Verify URL is pasted
Click Save
Wait 1-2 minutes
Refresh signup page
Try incognito browser
Issue 2: T&C Link Doesn't Work
Cause: URL is incorrect or doc is private.
Solution:
Copy link from Edit page
Paste in new browser tab
Verify it opens correctly
Check document permissions (public viewing)
Update URL in LaunchPass if needed
Issue 3: Name on Card Field Not Appearing
Cause: Feature not toggled on.
Solution:
Edit page
Toggle "Require Name on Card" ON
Save
Test on signup page
Issue 4: Can't Submit With Name Entered
Cause: Name format issue or Stripe error.
Solution:
Try different name format
Check for special characters
Try different card
Contact [email protected]
Issue 5: Members Complaining About Extra Fields
Cause: They're used to simpler signup.
Feedback: Some members will complain about "too many steps."
Response:
Explain it's for security
Note it takes 10 extra seconds
Emphasize fraud protection benefits
Or consider removing if conversion drops significantly
Impact on Conversion Rates
Research on Form Fields
General rules:
Each extra field reduces conversion 5-10%
Required fields impact more than optional
Name fields are relatively low-friction
Checkboxes are medium-friction
Expected Impact
Adding T&C checkbox:
Typical reduction: 3-8% conversion
Higher if T&C looks scary/long
Lower if positioned as protection
Adding Name on Card:
Typical reduction: 2-5% conversion
Lower than most fields (people know their name)
Minimal if explained well
Adding both:
Combined reduction: 5-13% conversion
Stack effects (not additive)
Worth it for high-value/high-risk communities
When It's Worth It
Benefits outweigh costs when:
Chargeback rate drops >5%
Refund disputes decrease
Fraud prevention saves money
Legal protection is valuable
High-ticket pricing ($100+/month)
Calculate:
Current: 100 signups/month at $50 = $5,000
With features: 90 signups/month at $50 = $4,500
But: Save $300/month in chargebacks and refund disputes
Net: Lose $500 revenue but gain $300 protection = $200 net loss
Decision: Maybe not worth it unless fraud is big problem
Test it: Run with features for 1 month. Compare metrics. Decide based on data.
FAQ
Do I need both features?
No. Use what makes sense for your community. High-value or high-risk = both. Low-risk = neither or just T&C.
Can I change my Terms & Conditions later?
Yes. Update your document. Change the URL in LaunchPass. Notify existing members of changes.
What if someone doesn't accept T&C?
They cannot complete signup. The "Subscribe" button won't work until they check the box.
Does Stripe store the name on card?
Yes, as part of payment data. Used for verification and fraud prevention.
Can I see who accepted my T&C?
Yes, in Stripe subscription metadata. Not currently in LaunchPass dashboard.
Do these features cost extra?
No. Included with LaunchPass Premium ($29/month). No additional fees.
Can I use for free communities?
No. These are Premium features. Only available for paid communities (which require Premium plan).
What if my T&C page goes down?
Members cannot sign up (link broken). Keep T&C on reliable hosting. Test monthly.
Should I use external T&C generator?
You can use online T&C generators as starting point. Customize for your specific situation. Consider lawyer review for high-value communities.
Do I need separate Privacy Policy?
Recommended but not required. Privacy Policy covers data handling. T&C covers membership terms. Can be separate documents or combined.
Can I require other acceptances?
Currently only T&C checkbox available. For other agreements, include in your T&C document.
What happens if I disable these features later?
New signups won't see them. Existing members who accepted keep their acceptance on record in Stripe.
